How to fix Outlook Error Code 0x800CCC0E

You log into your Microsoft Outlook account and select the “Compose” option. You start typing your message, select your recipients and click “Send.” That’s when you notice that dreaded error code, popup window appear. You read the error code message, “Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure (SSL): No, Socket Error: 10051, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E.”

Then you ask yourself, “Uh, is that even English?” Because it feels as if you were reading  something like this:

The message appears to be written in another language but the code is actually describing your Internet browser’s inability to connect to the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol server, or the SMTP.  The error code is a common issue among users trying to send mail on Outlook when using email accounts other than MSN.

Fixing error code 0x800CCC0E with Outlook repair requires you to change the SMTP server form your email account to the MSN SMTP server. Consider this Microsoft’s way of saying, “Sorry, only our SMTP servers work on Outlook.”  Before you get started, you must create an MSN ID (Windows Live) account by clicking here; you will need an ID to correct error code 0x800CCC0E.

1. Outlook repair says to double-click on Outlook and select “Accounts” from the “Tools” menu.  If you are lost by now, then God help you.

2.  Click on the “Mail” tab and select the e-mail account you wish to change, for example, Idislikeerrorcodes@gmail.com. Select the “Properties” option.

3. Click the “Servers” tab and select “Server Information.” Delete the entry in the “Outgoing mail (SMTP) section. Type the following: “smtp.email.msn.com.”

4. Check the box titled “My Server Requires Authentication” under Outgoing Mail Server section.

5. Click “Settings” and under the Logon Information section select “Log on using.”

6. Locate the Account Name box (hint, hint it’s on your screen).  Type your MSN Member ID username (which is everything before the @ on your e-mail address).

7. Locate the Password box and type your MSN account password.

8. Select the “Log On Using Secured Password Authentication” and select the check box.

9. Click “OK” to close the Outgoing Mail Server box. Then click “OK” to close the <Mail Account> Properties box. Click “Close” to finish.

So, not only do you have to use MSN SMTP server but you also have to create an MSN ID account. However, by doing so you will have fixed error code 0x800CCC0E and you can email without hassle.
